To mark 25 years of PEFC in the UK, we are delighted to invite our certificate holders to a special tree planting event in The National Forest.
As part of our anniversary celebrations, PEFC UK has donated over 1,000 trees, one for each of our certificate holders, to support new woodland creation. This planting day offers certificate holders the chance to get hands-on and help plant some of these trees, leaving a lasting legacy that reflects our shared commitment to responsible forest management.
The day will include refreshments, informal networking and a tour of the National Forest.
What the day will look like
To help manage numbers on site, there will be two planting sessions. Please select your preferred session when registering below.
Session 1
- 09:45 – Arrival, tea and coffee at the National Trust Stonywell
- 10:00 – Welcome and tour of the forest
- 11:00 – Tree planting session
- 11:15 – Refreshments provided at the Ulverscroft Grange Tea Room. Please view the menu and confirm your food preferences when submitting your details below.
Session 2
- 11:45 – Arrival, tea and coffee at the National Trust Stonywell
- 12:00 – Welcome and tour of the forest

About the site
The planting will take place at Chitterman Wood, a 28.56 hectare site near Ulverscroft, acquired by the National Forest Company in 2024 to deliver long-term environmental benefits through woodland creation.
Located within the Charnwood landscape character area, the site is recognised for its distinctive upland geology and rural character, set between Coalville, Loughborough and Leicester. The planting design has been shaped to reflect the surrounding landscape, retaining areas of open ground to create a wooded parkland feel alongside new woodland.
The woodland will be made up predominantly of native broadleaf species, with a diverse mix selected to:
- Improve resilience to climate change
- Reduce vulnerability to pests and diseases
- Enhance biodiversity and habitat creation
- Support future timber production
Approximately 82% of the planting will be trees and 18% shrubs, with a small conifer component (around 5%) integrated within mixed woodland areas.
Who Should Attend?
This event is open exclusively to PEFC UK certificate holders and is suitable for all levels of experience — no prior tree planting knowledge required.
Practical Details
- Date: Tuesday 10 March 2026
- Time: Arrive at 09:45 or 11:45, depending on your chosen tree planting session (selected during registration)
- Location: National Trust Stonywell, Whitcrofts Lane, Ulverscroft, Leicestershire, LE67 9QE
- What to bring: Weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. Please bring a change of shoes for lunch after the tree planting.
- Refreshments: Tea and coffee will provided upon arrival. After your session, refreshments will be provided at Ulverscroft Grange Tea Room.
