Timber has increasing appeal for architects, designers and those who specify materials for construction projects. Our one-hour online CPD-accredited Homegrown Timber webinar teaches specifiers about the benefits of using responsibly sourced home grown timber, and dispels some of the myths surrounding the properties of UK-grown softwoods and hardwoods.
Why join our homegrown timber webinar?
The UK is one of the least forested nations in Europe, at only 13% forest cover, whereas the European average is 37%. It is also the second largest net importer of timber products, only China imports more. Even though there is a limited resource, UK softwoods are well utilised, although we do need to improve the specification of C16 timber. For hardwood, only around 10% of what is harvested ends up as sawn timber!
We therefore need to do more to utilise our homegrown timber resource to encourage more planting and management of productive woodlands.
