PEFC Certificate Holders
If you are a PEFC certificate holder you can use the PEFC label!
There are two approved types of use:
1. On-product use
Applied directly to a certified product, its packaging, or associated materials (e.g. brochures). There are two types of on-product labels:
‘PEFC Certified’ Label
Can be used only if the product contains at least 70% PEFC certified material.
‘PEFC Recycled’ Label
To be used if the product contains 100% recycled material.
2. Off-product use
For promotional, marketing or educational purposes (e.g. websites or event materials).
Using the PEFC label allows you to:
- Show your commitment to sustainability and responsible sourcing
- Build trust with environmentally conscious customers
- Stand out in procurement and ESG-led markets
- Support global awareness of sustainable forest management
How to access the PEFC Trademarks
As part of achieving certification, you will be required to sign a ‘PEFC Trademark Contract’, which will be issued to them directly by PEFC UK. Once this contract is signed and returned we will issue you with a unique licence number and access to the online PEFC Label Generator. The user-friendly generator allows compliant labels to be produced and downloaded quickly.
The use of labels obtained from the generator do not require pre-approval before use, however any modifications in terms of the use of non-standard colours, sizes, arrangement of components need to be approved by PEFC prior to use. This approval can be sought through the generator.
The rules governing the use of trademarks are included with PEFC ST 2001 and compliance will be assessed as part of your annual audit by your choosen certification body.
Retailers and Brand Owners
If you are a retailers or brand owner who simply purchase and sell finished PEFC certified products, you are able to use the PEFC label off-product to promote these products as certified. To do this, you must sign a ‘promotional trademark licence’, following which you will be issued with a licence number and provided access to the label generator.
For companies operating solely in the UK, obtaining this type of licence is free-of-charge, however for multi-national organisations a fee is charged based on annual turnover.
Unlike certificate holders, you are not subject to annual audit, however an annual compliance check is conducted by PEFC UK.
