Paper and Print

Choose PEFC certified paper to protect forests and support responsible sourcing.

Use PEFC-certified paper to demonstrate the responsible sourcing of forest and tree-based material.

Paper is used across packaging, publishing, commercial print and hygiene products. For organisations that procure, manufacture or supply paper products, PEFC Chain of Custody certification provides a framework for identifying and accounting for PEFC-certified, recycled and other controlled material through the supply chain.

PEFC Chain of Custody certification helps organisations demonstrate that their sourcing and traceability processes have been independently assessed against PEFC requirements. PEFC-endorsed forest management standards include environmental, social and economic requirements against which certified forest management is assessed.

Certification relates to the sourcing of the forest and tree-based material. It does not assess the overall environmental impact of the finished paper product.

Why Choose PEFC?

  • Respond to customer requirements. Supply paper and print products with PEFC claims where the applicable certification and trademark requirements have been met.
  • Demonstrate responsible sourcing. Provide customers and stakeholders with independently assessed information about how PEFC-certified, recycled and other controlled material is managed within your organisation.
  • Manage supply chain information. Establish documented procedures for purchasing, identifying, accounting for and selling material with PEFC claims.
  • Communicate clearly. Eligible organisations can use PEFC trademarks to communicate information about certified material, provided the relevant requirements are met.
  • Choose a suitable certification option. Individual, multi-site and group certification options are available for different organisational structures.

Flexible Certification Options

PEFC Chain of Custody certification applies to an organisation’s management system and relevant activities. The scope of certification can cover specified sites, processes and product groups.

To become certified, an organisation must establish and implement procedures for purchasing, tracking, manufacturing and selling forest and tree-based material with PEFC claims. Compliance is independently assessed by an accredited certification body.

Once certified, an organisation can make PEFC claims about eligible products that fall within its certification scope and meet the applicable requirements.
